Meteor Shower
To participate in this event you will need to complete the main prompt (Prompt 1) in the first half of the event Festival of Stars.
Event run time is from 9/8/24-10/08/24
The night sky has darkened and Rora is setting up a small stage next to the boardwalk that looks over the rolling hills. She has a set up small props and items that she will be using to tell her stories. A crowd has gathered around her and soon loud gasps and cheers can be heard as the first few meteors begin to dash across the sky. Not just in one color but a rainbow of colors starting to streak through the atmosphere.
Rora smiles and continues to set up her stage. It was clear she loved seeing the joy of those getting to watch the meteor shower for the first time.
Some of the activities around the festival have changed and people are rushing to get the best spots to see the meteors while they fill up on snacks and carry around the prizes they have won from the booths.
She catches sight of you out of the corner of her eye and waves you over to her excitedly.
Rora: “I hope you have been enjoying the festival! The real fun is about to begin. With this many Alfien's here Jalis will bless us with a night sky lit up with colors. These meteors are a beacon of hope and inspiration for my people. Tonight there is a magic tournament happening. You can watch some powerful Alfien's indulge in magical combat. Our magic style is a bit different….a bit like a dance? You will see for yourself. She purred. If you want more feathers you can always enter the asteroid race. It's a race through town where some air magic users will try and blow you off course and toss beach balls painted like asteroids at you to distract you. Good luck! OH! Speaking of hope, I was hoping I could ask a favor of you?” Her expression seems a bit embarrassed at this point.
Rora: “Kriss asked me to keep an eye on the Meteor Mini Mites that have been wandering around the festival, but I got distracted talking with all the guests and lost them…I know he is gonna be upset if I can't find them. Do you think you could keep a look out for them while you are here at the festival? I have some feathers in it for you!” She smiled meekly.
Rora: “I knew you would be up for it!” She pats you on the back before you have a chance to reply and gives you a thumbs up.
Rora: “Anyhow, let me know if you can find them. For now I need to keep setting up and practicing my stories.” She began reciting the story of her people. Her voice low but you could just make out what she was saying.
Rora: “Long ago when 'The Great Mother' Jalis flew through the cosmos she was approached by a World Eater that wished to claim Jalis's joy and colors as their own. A World Eater's appetite is rarely satisfied and while they seem chaotic in nature they crave order. Wishing to contain and organize her colorful soul magic a great battle began between the two Gods. Jalis could not be tamed and after their power shook the stars around them the two gods took shelter in a solar system to try and heal. Jalis took refuge on Armondis while 'The World Eater' Vistol came to rest on Karoxza. After resting, Jalis made the first alfiens. To celebrate this we have a ceremony to reenact this each year and the group that does the best is given a snazzy trophy.” Rora is completely focused on her story and does not notice you staying to listen.
Rora: “Jalis spread her great wings and shielded us from 'The World Eater's' gaze. Having been born from her tears, our kind is often bright and colorful. It is said the brighter an Alfien is, the more spirit of Jalis they have in their hearts. Our protector blessed us with these pointed tails to protect our backs from the darkness, though some cultures see these spades as signs of evil, we have only ever seen them as a reminders that we can be both kind and fierce. Rora spread out one of her arms and flexed the feathers on it, showing how they spread into a full wing that she used to fly. One of the most obvious gifts we have are these large feathers! We use them in a lot of our decorating and often times families will save the feathers shed by the leader of the clans to better honor them and preserve part of the past.
Rora: “Apart from our feathers, some of our greatest pride happens to come from our magic! Alfiens are natural fire breathers and are able to learn beginner level fire magic without the need of a Grimoire. It is a common belief that the strength of the fire we breathe matches the strength of our hearts and passion. Thankfully these feathers we have also give us an advantage in the air and wind magic is something many Alfien learn with relative ease. The greatest of our mages are able to create large storms and they often lead our military forces.”
Rora: “Now I know I have you enchanted with my tale but sadly it is coming to an end. Soon the meteors will be streaming across the sky faster than you can count and I would hate for you to miss it. Make sure to spend your Crystal clusters at some of the local booths! Everyone worked hard to be here today and bring you the best food and games we had to offer. Please enjoy the show the meteors will be putting on for you tonight!” Rora had finished reciting her speech to herself and leaned back a bit to stretch. You enter back into the crowd to enjoy the festival as Rora continues to prepare for the main event.
Now the question is, what to do first?
