Degils
Degils are a deer/bird hybrid that are very in tune with nature. Their horns are made completely out of crystal and they have special sacs on their flanks that hold their magic. A Degil's magic naturally makes the plants around them grow better and more resistant to blights. Degils are fiercely protective of natural sites which they deem sacred.
Degils are often seen as very compassionate creatures that have been known to protect others that can’t protect themselves. Degils magic has a big influence on plants and it can help protect them in the long run. Their homes often have large thorny bushes around them as a result of this influence on nature. In a life or death situation, a Degil can draw the life from plants and nature around them to give themselves more magic in an attempt to overcome or escape from a current threat. This is not something they can do easily and is very taxing on them once the extra magic has worn off. They must often rest for days at a time after one of these spells.
Their strong connection with nature allows them empathize a lot more and due to this it means they often don't eat meat. In an effort to stay close to plants they are particularly fond of, they will store the plants seeds in their thick neck fluff.
Variants
Across all Degil Variants there are several consistent factors in their looks: horns, thick neck fur, bird-like back feet, and hooved (though sometimes paws) front feet. Their neck furs can form a fur hood that can cover their ears and horn when it is cold.
Though there are several variants of Degil, they all have a lot in common magically. All Degils have magical 'vents/pouches' on their sides. These vents glow faintly when not using magic, and brightly when they are. All variants of Degil can also shapeshift into several different forms. Every Degil has the ability to take on a Human form at will once magically strong enough. This can be an bipedalform, satyr form, fully Human, or centaur form. It is said they can do this because when Solaris was still whole they had strong visions of such creatures in their dreams and when they split into three separate beings this influence was still prevalent.
Common Degil

Natural traits: Magic trail
The Common Degil is the most plentiful type of Degil found on Redoa and within the species. They have everything vital needed to a Degil, though without the fancy additions that some of the other Degil variants. They typically make their homes in forests and open plains. These Degil tend to be more friendly and welcoming in nature. Befriending one is usually easy to do as long as you are respectful of nature and are able to show compassion to others. They form strong bonds with one another and often live in villages that work with the nature around them rather destroying it to make room for their homes.
They take great pride in their gardens and seem to grow vegetables the best! Trampling a garden is a very disrespectful and thought of as a personal attack.
Fairy Degil
Fairy Variant Degil (Click for Larger Image).
Natural traits: Wings, Magic Trail, and Multiple Ears.
Fairy Degils often sport a pair of insect-like wings on their back. They are semi-transparent and despite their thin appearance they are also quite durable. When not in use, they can lay their wings flat against their back. They also often have two pairs of ears, though no one is sure why this trait is more prevalent with the Fairy Subtype.
A Fairy Degil's fur is soft and silky, and it is common that flowers and plants woven into them at times. They often live rather carefree lives hidden deep within Redoa's forests where it is almost impossible to find them. They tend to be smaller than common Degils, not that this bothers them since it is rare for any other type of Degil to live in the Fairy villages. They pride themselves on the trees they grow and specialize in fruit trees. Each spring they celebrate the blooming of the trees with a festival and then have yet another festival when it is time to pick the ripe fruit. The fruit they grow is always rich in flavor and seems to stay fresh for much longer than regular fruit.
Their homes are made branches of large trees and connected by living vine bridges. They decorate heavily with flowers and have contests to see who can produce the most beautiful blooms. Despite being very outgoing while in their village, Fairy Degils tend to be rather shy and reserved when around strangers or new comers. Often casting glamours on their villages to make them harder to find.
Manta Degil
Manta Variant Degil (Click for Larger Image).
Natural traits:Spikes and Fins.
Manta Degil have large manta wings that let these Degil soar through the water instead of the air, gills on their neck, and fins on their back for steering in the water. Their fur hydrophobic and the fluff around the neck is often shorter so as not to block the gills. They can sometimes have stingers/barbs on the end of their tail. Most are just a large spike, but occasionally they can have a stinging toxin in them.
A Manta Degil has less fur than other Degil variants, but the fur they do have is water proof and does not shed often. These variants can live in water or on land with no problem and as a result they have villages all across the coasts in Redoa.
Manta Degil's specialize in the growth of aquatic plants and corals. Villages will adopt entire reefs and watch them for generations. It is of high debate between Villages on who has the most beautiful and lively reef.
Mantas are very protective of the bodies of water they live in or near and littering or dumping trash into these bodies of water can lead to you being put on trial by the local Village leaders.
These Degils are friendly but don't tend to stick around for long unless you can swim to the depths with them.
Dragon Degil
Dragon Variant Degil (Click for Larger Image).
Natural traits:Wings and Scales.
Dragon Degils are a rare subtype that usually have wings that are bat/dragon like in nature and clusters of scales dotted across their body.
They are naturally fire proof and are able to learn fire magic easier than other Degil variants. They also have an affinity for shiny things and treasure, guarding what they deem valuable with their lives. They tend to live in mountain ranges, deserts, or volcanic regions. They often make homes in the the sides of cliffs, under ground, or by carving and shaping volcanic rock into homes.
Due to the nature of the environment they live in, they specialize in growing cactus, succulents, and other hardy plants that can be found in harsh climates. They will use the spines from cacti they grow to help create weapons and protect their home. Thankfully their scales often prevent them from being poked by the spines themselves and allow them to handle these plants with ease.
Dragon Degils tend to be on the aggressive and not very trusting of others. If you do manage to befriend one then you can be assured you have a friend for life. Their loyalty is known far and wide with Dragon Degils sticking beside their comrades sides to the bitter end.
While they don't celebrate much they do tend to celebrate the days that ancient battles and wars were won. During these festivals are some of the few times they tend to be more welcome to visitors looking to spend money on local goods.
Demi-God Degil
Demi-God Variant Degil (Click for Larger Image).
Natural traits: None.
Demi-God Degil are a special variant of Degil that is said to have the blood of the divine in their veins. They have a lot of mystery surrounding them, and are one of the rarest Degil variants in existence. It is only rumored that they can take a grand form in the form of a large stag, however, only other Demi-God Degil's know this to be true. When they are in their regular form, it is nearly impossible to tell that they are a Demi-God Degil.
These Degil tend to be elusive and are not keen to share what they are with others. They are a large source of magic that is desired by many for the opportunity they can provide as well as their sheer power. Staying hidden is the top priority for this variant of Degil. In their grand forms they are capable of amazing magical feats, but at the cost of burning through their magic reserves at an alarming pace. Due to this, these Degil only use their grand form when absolutely needed. They can sense shifts in magic to tell if good or bad luck is coming their way.
It is also rumored that the plants they are able to grow can be crafting into many things such as potions that can cure any disease, give lasting life, or perhaps bring someone back from the dead. There has been no way to tell if these rumors are true thus far.
Life Cycle
A Degil’s life expectancy ranges from any age as their magic determines their life span. Unless gravely injured, very sick, or they have used all their magic without resting, they can essentially live forever. This is not to be confused with them being immortal, as they are not.
Degils can combine their magics to create a new Degil and as such it makes no difference if the parents of the the same sex or not. If two different subtypes create a new Degil then the child has a chance to be one of the two types that the parents are but usually end up as whatever type is more commmon between the two.
As a new born the baby Degil will be able to walk with in hours but will still need constant care from their parents until they are a young adult.
After a year their mane will start to grow in from the base of the neck up, they will also start to form a small 'bud' on the top of the head where their horn will grow from.
At about three years old they are now able to talk and fully communicate with those around them. They also are starting to practice their magic. They can channel magic through their small horn to help them lift small objects and become more in tune with nature around them. At this point their mane has come in fully.
When they are about 20 years old they often start to explore away from their village and home around Redoa to find where they are most happy. Since space travel has come to the planet more and more young Degils are traveling outside of their world. They often take up residency on planets that could benefit from their ability to help heal the nature around them.
Since a Degil's magic can keep it alive for exceptionally long time they are known to have only passed from injuries, or illness. When this time comes the sacs on their side lose their glow and the Degil will try and find a place of comfort where they can try and return to nature. Places where Degil have passed away always seem to flourish with their favorite plants.
Lifestyles
Degils are able to learn other magics besides just nature magic. It can take some time and certain Degil variants are able to more easily learn certain magic types over others. Degils have towns, villages, and settlements all across Redoa, though some Degils prefer to live alone. They make great use of magitech.
Due to each Subtype usually living in a different biome, they often have very different homes, cultures, and customs. To find more details, check out the subtype listings above.
Magic
All Degils have magic that they can channel with their crystal horns. On their flanks they have three clear patches of skin where you can see their magic reserves. The stronger a Degil's magic, the brighter they will glow and sparkle. A Degil's magic is their life's blood and if that runs out, they will die. Degil's charge their magic by sleeping. When asleep their minds are connected to the earth and they can ‘recharge’.
Due to having a close connection with nature they have a strong ability to detect sickness in plants and animals. They can use this to help prune sickness from fields and provide aid to those suffering from an illness. Their horns act like a 'wand' to help them channel this magic.
