Several thousands of years ago an ancient deity called Jalis flew through the cosmos on her great wings. It was said that a trail of stars was left in her wake and nebulas formed from her wing tips. Her beauty and wonder was coveted by many but her gentle gaze usually soothed the even the most jealous of souls. However, often times where there is great light shining, there are also great shadows. There was another celestial beast who's jealousy was not quelled by her calming aura and he attacked her. Their battle shook the planets around them and when they finally split apart Jalis found her wings were broken.

When she realized she could not fly and see the wonder of the stars around her she began to weep. A rainbow of colors fell from her eyes with each tear drop and wanting to see the wonders of the universe once more she used her tail like a paint brush and painted all the things she had seen and hoped to see. Her tears of sadness became tears of joy. Her motherly nature was fulfilled when the blood still leaking from her form gave life to her paintings and with that the Aflien's world Armondis was created, and soon after she created the Afliens themselves. Since her blood ran through their veins they held a grand from like their Great Mother. Powerful but gentle. They were also blessed with the ability to shift to a smaller and more condensed form, so if they should ever need to hide they would be able to.

It is said that Jalis still guards this world jealously while her broken wings try to heal keeping the world devouring dragon at bay. On dark moonless nights it was believed the Great Mother is hiding the world under her wings and keeping them safe from those that wish them harm. On rare occasion bright meteor's can be seen in the night sky over the Alfien's home world as well as in the sky of worlds where lots of Alfiens have gathered. The tails of these shooting stars come in just about every color as they shoot through the sky and it is said they are the tears of joy cried by Jalis when she looks down and sees her people prosper. To Alfien's these shooting stars are sacred and when they show up they are celebrated like a holiday called the Festival of Stars.
